There are hundreds of these meetings going on across the US on Thursday! For more information see Demand AlJazeera English.
Portland, Oregon
When: Thursday February 10, 7pm
Stumptown Coffee
128 SW 3rd Avenue Portland, OR
To add yourself to the meeting with others in Portland. For those who are less familiar, AlJazeera is based in Qatar, but covers news across the globe. Their English language version AlJazeera English has been in operation since 2003, but it has not been picked up by US cable news providers.
In my opinion, this coincided with the Iraq war, and Americans, as well as American cable news networks, were cautious or fearful of this Arab-nation-based news agency. However, they cover news of the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and more.
Over the last month, AlJazeera has played an important international observer role in Egypt. Their broadcasts are often live from Tahrir square, and they have better accessibility to the common Egyptian on the ground. Even when President Hosni Mubarak tried to ban AlJazeera journalists by revoking their journalist privileges, they persevered bringing important news to the Arab world and beyond. They serve to bring free press across the entire region!

Please join me and many others in contacting your local US cable company to demand AlJazeera English!
