Ah.. Summer weeks totally rock. With no school I can stay up way too late watching the Olympics, read and web surf for more Olympics information. Then blog about it and drink coffee. It's half decaf ok. :)
The best finds of Monday Olympics..
Michael Phelps, US Swimmer, is totally blowing the other guys out of the water. He has won 3 gold metals in the first 2 days and is still going for his goal of 8 gold metals in the Olympics. That will break the record for the Most Gold Medals in one Olympic Games.
AND he (and the US Men's Relay team)broke the world record for Men's 4x100m Medley (Swimming 100 yards of each style butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle).
He obtained another gold when the US won the men's freestyle relay, BREAKING ANOTHER WORLD RECORD. Only 5 more to go :) He's a power house and amazing athlete; check out this article regarding his racing.
Regarding Muslim Female Olympians I have tracked down the following thanks in part to a great article about Muslim Sportswomen Gain Standing In Beijing. There are, however, probably quite a few other Muslim sportswomen like Indonesians, Philippinas, Pakistanis, or various African Nations.
Sad news, the Afghani runner will not be competing. It seems she and her family have had enough harassment. She took off from Olympic training in July to (allegedly) seek asylum in Norway as per ESPN article about her . She is not listed in competitors on the official website.
Egypt, however, has 3 of 4 female fencers who wear hijab. In round 64 of women's preliminary 2 of the girls Iman Shaban and Eman El-Gammal fought each other to continue on Iman Shaban will continue on.

Shaban continues on.Pakistan's Kiran Khan was the youngest ever competitor at age 12 in the games back in 2002; she's back again in the 50m freestyle.
There is scheduled to be the first Somali woman ever to rep the nation in running!! And this sister is only 16 years old!.. however Samiyo Yuusf is under the radar. It's nearly impossible to find with the exception, a BBC article explaining the difficult time she has between practice and social pressure. Insha'Allah, God Willing, she is still in the race... I think she is unlisted on the official Beijing website.

they look so nice in hijab. its good to see they kept their hijab on - unlike other muslim girls from other countries
Assalaamu alaikum,
Masha'Allah it's nice to read about and see female athletes from a variety of different 'muslim' countries although Saudi (where I live) has still not made it onto the list!
Wassallam Umm Ibrahim,
I'm thinking if Saudi lets some ladies go next time... it's only take a matter of time :) Let's hold that hope... Insha'Allah.
ahh I guess that Sister in fencing stopped using "Fair and Lovely" ?
as much as many sisters hate to hear that but many of those sisters in the olympics arent really wearing "hijab"
Sallam Mass,
Yes, some of us try our best... but it's hopefully for God and not for people.
What is fair and lovely... ah the skin bleach right? Maybe it was a bright flash bulb on the camera.
Since you are a weigtlifting guy, I guess your hijab experience is through reading. By some standards I guess very few wear hijab.
Thanks for stopping by...
I was being sarcastic about "fair and Lovely" thats how many girls in Cairo wear makeup they wear it on something that makes them much lighter..
actually i have two friends in fencing for the previous olympics
one of em was a bro (with mega beard) who memorised all Quran and many hadeeth and studied with major sheioukh he was bascially a sheikh at a young age, a double major and double minor.
and was the top guy in Egypt in fencing mashaAllah!
